It starts with Attitude!
This is your life, what you choose to do from this moment is up to you, you are in control. I hope by the end of this session you will start to believe the following of yourself:
“I am special”
“I can free myself from stress & anxiety”
“I can find freedom & take charge of my life”
I know this sounds scary. For many years I made excuses for why my life wasn’t going the way I wanted it to. I didn’t want to dig deep and meet my flaws. What I did need to do was trust myself and remind myself that I was my own best friend. This created a good foundation. I then embarked on a learning process that changed my life. I decided to get counseling. I remember on my 8th session my coach asked me: “Ask yourself where might you be right now if you didn’t let fear hold you back? What if you were not afraid to fail or of what others thought of you”.
I felt challenged and in need to defend myself I answered; “I would not be who I am today”. I remember in that moment I felt at peace with myself. I think that was because I embraced who I was. I started looking at my past experiences as choices that I made and that they made me who I was. I was not in control, I was suffering from anxiety, I had too many responsibilities and too many suggestions to follow. I felt I had to do all of it or else I was a failure and if I was a failure my life didn’t hold importance. My coach helped me see the brighter side. She had similar learning experiences in her life. I was learning, being reassured and motivated by someone who had made it out the other side. I now do the same for others – I want others to come out of the darkness and see the brighter side within themselves.Let’s start a journal and start getting to know ourselves, so we can follow our own dreams and not ones that are expected of us by others;
First let’s work with WHAT:
Step 1: Think about yourself:
What kind of person am I?
What do I like to do?
What are my strengths?
Step 2: Begin to dream: Yes, begin to dream – it can be anything you wish for. If you met a fairy, and she could grant you one wish, what would that be?
Step 3: Visualize your dream; What does it feel like, smell like, taste like?
Where am I in the dream?
Who Is there with me?
How do I see myself?
When did I first dream this dream?
Why this dream?
Believe in yourself, you know yourself best, so follow your judgement and take responsibility. Remember you are making this for yourself, no one can be your best friend like you can be for yourself. If any “but” come into your mind, change them into “and”. This brings out the positive in each comment.
Now we need to know HOW:
Step 1: Create a timeline: When do you want your wish to come true: 5 years or 10 years? And why?
Step 2: Action plan: Research and make a list of action items that you need to accomplish. Move toward that goal and say no to things that don’t get you to your goal. This is what I mean by “give it your all”.
Step 3: Lights, Camera, Action: Schedule each action item in your calendar. Begin with the first action item. Seek out people that inspire and encourage you. Treat them with kindness and respect. As you complete each action item, celebrate by treating yourself to something fun – even ice-cream. This way you allow yourself to feel special.
Taking responsibility for our accomplishments is just as important as taking responsibility for our mistakes. They go hand in hand, they both provide us a sense of direction; the freedom to embark on the next step. Each experience is a building block… a prerequisite for what lies ahead of you. Take care of yourself and remember that you are important, that you have the power to do great and spread love.
